Offshore Windfarm Manager

The development of the Belwind offshore windfarm requires an efficient method of tracking progress and of specifying the work to be executed.

Previous experience demonstrated the inadequacy of attempting to monitor and report the progress of such a project with spreadsheets and e-mails, or even with traditional planning tools. It is necessary to have a single up-to-the-minute source of information available to all project members. Furthermore it is desirable to represent the information graphically, in order to achieve rapid comprehension and minimise the risk of misunderstandings.

ATLIS was commissioned to produce an application for progress monitoring in offshore windfarms. Because the application needs to be available at any location, including on board ship, it is entirely web-based.

The Offshore Windfarm Manager supports:

  • entry of progress and planning by authorised staff;
  • graphical display of progress achieved on the wind turbines themselves, on the cabling and on other components of the project;
  • graphical display of short-term planning, so that it is clear to everyone which subcontractors will be working at which locations;
  • display of ship positions, both those working on the project and others.

In addition it provides a number of administrative functions for tracking personnel and for logging events.

The application is written in Java using the Google Web Toolkit and Ext-GWT extension. It makes use of Geoserver and the Postgis database management server.

The application has been in use since September 2009.
